In a move that underscores the UAE's commitment to enhancing innovation and development in the telecommunications sector, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority announced the launch of the updated fourth edition of the National Frequency Plan. This step coincides with the outcomes of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23), and the notable updates included the allocation of the 600 MHz and 6 GHz frequency bands for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) services, supporting the future communication needs of the country.
The UAE is among the first countries in the world to initiate the allocation of these frequency bands to operators, with operations expected to begin between 2025 and 2026. In this field, the UAE continues to advance in advanced 5G technologies within the 6 GHz frequency band, achieving data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This new allocation will enhance the country's infrastructure, solidify its leadership in mobile communication services, and pave the way for the development of sixth-generation (6G) services expected in 2030.
Sixth-generation (6G) technologies are considered a qualitative leap in the world of technology, providing ultra-fast data speeds at the terabit level, with latency of less than a millisecond, and improving networks through artificial intelligence. Communication and sensing technologies will also be integrated, enabling innovative applications such as real-time holographic communication, virtual and augmented reality, smart cities, and extensive integration of the Internet of Things.
This update reflects the UAE's proactive vision in keeping pace with global developments and confirms its status as a leading country in the telecommunications and information technology sector worldwide.
