The Arab Spectrum Management Group (ASMG) conducted its 34th meeting (ASMG-34) over four intensive days (24–27 August 2026) of technical and policy deliberation held in virtual format. The meeting brought together representatives of 19 Arab administrations, underscoring the region's continued commitment to a coordinated, forward-looking approach to spectrum management and international telecommunications policy.

Building a Unified Arab Voice for WRC-27 A central focus of ASMG-34 was the continued development of ASMG's common positions on the agenda items of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27). By consolidating the technical and regulatory priorities of its member administrations into unified proposals.

Celebrating Progress on Gender Inclusion — and Investing in the Next Generation Delegates reviewed the achievements and impact of the Network of Women (NoW) initiative, which continues to expand opportunities for women across the spectrum management and telecommunications regulatory community. Building on this momentum, the meeting saw a forward-looking proposal to broaden the initiative's scope to include youth — a deliberate step toward cultivating and preparing the next generation of Arab spectrum management professionals, and safeguarding ASMG's institutional continuity for decades to come.

A New Framework for Cross-Border Coordination In one of the meeting's most significant outcomes, ASMG-34 approved new cross-border frequency coordination guidelines for member administrations. This framework is expected to streamline coordination procedures between neighbouring administrations, reduce the potential for harmful interference, and accelerate the deployment of new services along shared borders.

Looking Ahead to PP-26 With the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26) on the horizon, delegations held early discussions on radiocommunication-related issues expected to be raised at the conference, including radionavigation and satellite network coordination and notification procedures, as well as a proposed resolution to strengthen protection of radionavigation-satellite service (RNSS) signals — used by GNSS systems for safety-of-life applications and critical infrastructure

Advancing Technical Contributions to ITU-R Finally, delegations reviewed some contribution documents planned for submission to the relevant ITU-R Working Parties.
